Health Issue: Watching TV

TV lovers, here is some advice for you.

Turn Off the TV and Go for A Walk
Each hour u spent watching TV increases the risk of dying from heart disease. If u watch the box for more than 4 hours a day, u are 80% more likely to die from cardivascular-related disease than those who watch less than 2 hours a day.

Even you have a healthy body weight, sitting for long periods has an unhealthy influence on body sugar and blood fats. Give a thought on it.

Detox

What do u know about detox?

'Detoxing is not just about weird juices but CLEARING THE DECK OF TOXINS rather than going hungry.' (Sanna Anderson, nutritional therapist at London nutritionist The Nutrition Coach)

Below are some detox tips (8):

Have a cooked breakfast
Stick to scrambled egges, sauteed mushrooms & grilled tomatoes on rye bread - these are a proper breakfast without the toxins.

B yourself
'Brown rice, broccoli and spinach contain B-complex vitamins & give detox a boost.' (Kimberly Barnouin, author of Skinny Bastard)
B-complex: Improve liver function and decongest the liver, while vitamin B12 improves liver health.

Swap meat for fish
'Keep red meat to a minimum i.e make meat 10% of your diet in the long term.' (Lisa Miles, senior nutrition scientist at the British Nutrition Foundation)
Oily fish is a high source of the nutrient Omega 3 and good for heart health - recommend around 2 - 3 portions a week.

Get in the mix
'Salt should be avoided during a detox. Replace it with spice mix of tumeric, cumin, coriander and fennel powder to add to your food.' (Kimberly Barnouin)
Garlic helps remove heavy metal from liver.

Eat more baked beans
Fibre, which is found in cereals, pasta, rice, bread and baked beans, is good for the digestive system and helps keep our weight in check.

Treat yourself to a Chinese
Asian food can be tasty and healthy.
'Rice and chicken with soy sauce, spiced up with some fresh chillis, is a perfect detox meal, as long as u keep it simple.' (Anderson)

Eat your five a day
Yes., the five-a-day chat is boring but it is worth it.
Smoothies: provide up to 2 of these 5
Fresh orange juice: proviide 1 of these 5
Potatoes don't count but sweet potatoes do: 1 of these 5
Sultanas: 1 of these 5
Most people have just less than 3 portions a day. If you have 5, you will feel healthier and look better.

Little wine
Red wine contains resveratrol, linked to fighting obesity and longer life.
